Early Jaffe & McGee
Tape 14 |
Tape Specifics:
Cassette not stored in a case upon arrival, and case added on 09/05/14. Unbranded (actually Intermagnetics brand) “LOW NOISE” 90-minute cassette. On the cassette leader tape are printed the words “C90 MADE IN HONG KONG”. Both write-protection tabs were intact, and these were removed on 03-05-14.
Debbie had made these markings on the Side A cassette label:
Above the cassette window originally she had written in black ink:
“ TAPE 5 Side 1 Quiet Tape (later scratched out with blue ink)
Under those words she later wrote in blue ink: “BASIC TRACKS 2 songs” and the word “good” with an arrow pointing to “2 songs”.
Lower Left: a big black “X” in black ink, to indicate that this tape contained good recordings.
Below the cassette window she wrote in blue ink “Dec. Sessions 69B Side 1 Do Not Erase”.
To the lower right is written: “69B Side 1” and it is circled.
Debbie had made these markings on the Side B cassette label:
Above the cassette window originally she had written in black ink:
“TAPE 5 Side 2 COSTELLO/ENO 16 SONGS” (later scratched out with blue ink).
Lower Left: a big black “X” in black ink, to indicate that this tape contained good recordings.
Below the cassette window she wrote in blue ink “For Session” and “Blank”. “Blank was later scratched out in black ink.
To the right of that it looks like she had written “DO”, which was possibly an abandoned attempt to write “DO NOT ERASE”.
To the lower right is written: “69B Side 2” and it is circled.
Side A:
00:05 - 02:38
Casio VL-1 (perhaps two of them) with lots of reverb and tremolo
02:39 - 04:24
“Composition” by Hal McGee
which was used on 60 Minutes Of Laughter in its entirety.
The two above tracks were probably recorded in December 1982.
The following dubs from records sound like they might have been made with
the mono Panasonic shoebox recorder. Lots of tape noise, distorted, very low fidelity.
--------------
songs by John Lennon, Yoko Ono, David Bowie, Brian Eno [not included in audio player above]
Side B:
00:00 - 04:34
This side of the tape starts out with the sounds of a TV or radio, heard indistinctly
in the background. Then the Casio VL-1 comes in, with Hal’s unamplified vocal
(indiscernible words). Date not indicated.
--------------
04:35 - till end of tape
songs by Elvis Costello and Brian Eno [not included in audio player above]
