Tracks 1 and 3 recorded December 28, 2012, on a Tascam DP-004 4-Track Digital PocketStudio.
Track 2 recorded December 20, 2012 on video, mp4 audio.
Track 4 recorded March 2, 2013, direct to stereo cassette.
All tracks recorded in Gainesville, Florida.
Tracks 1 and 3 are a tribute to the yin and yang, order and chaos, magnificence and mess of modern China.
The first track is named after Luo Baogen, a stubborn and spirited duck farmer who refused to give up his five-story row house when a new main road was set to pass right through it. The road was paved around either side, creating quite an unusual scene. Imagine cars careening down the highway, swerving around the house, tires squealing.
Track 3, "Guódào", means "national road." Night has fallen; so has the house of Baogen. The highway is filled with twinkling headlights. Travelers speed desperately, their ephedrinated consciousness tenuously holding on to wakefulness as they push on to their destinations. Visions of creation and destruction mix with the intoxicating odor of petrol fumes.
