S/M Operations At The Harrington Ballroom

S/M Operations

At The Harrington Ballroom
Day 253, 1983   C60

Port Huron, Michigan, USA

Cause And Effect is now the official manufacturer and distributor of this sampler of the S/M Operations groups. Highlights include "Wallet Fulla Food Stamps" and "Thorazine Took Away My Sex Drive" by eccentric folksinger John Wright. Also included are two shattering performances of highly abrasive power electronics by Shame, Exposure. And of course there are great performances by perhaps America's best-known electronic outfit, Hunting Lodge. Included here are "Learn To Will", "de omnibus dubitandum" and one of HL's most powerful excursions yet, "The Wolf Hour". Also check out "Stellazine Shuffle" with John Wright on vocals with the Lodge.

S/M Operations At The Harrington Ballroom was listed in the January 1985, May 1985, November 1985, and Summer 1986 Cause And Effect Cassette Distribution catalogs.
It is presented here strictly for archival, educational, historical, and non-commercial purposes. All rights belong to the artists.

These recordings are straight transcriptions from an original copy of the cassette as it was published by S/M Operations in 1983. No attempt has been made to enhance or "improve" the sound quality.

Pictured above is a cover of an original copy of S/M Operations At The Harrington Ballroom that I still have in my possession. The cover has discolored/yellowed somewhat due to age.

The audio files are transcriptions of the entire sides of the cassette, not divided into tracks. This was done for two reasons:
    1) to give the listener an opportunity to hear the sides of the tape as continuous listening experiences just as someone might have heard them if they bought the tape from Cause And Effect in 1985
    2) to highlight and emphasize the non-commercial nature of this archival presentation

The main purposes here are to preserve artifacts and documents of Cassette Culture Era history, and to honor the artists and labels who produced them.

This is the 23rd entry of a project that I have recently commenced to thoroughly document the cassettes that were distributed and produced by Cause And Effect. I expect this project to take several years to complete.
