MOMA071 - Claudia Peredo - Econoise
Recorded in Combarbalá, Chile,
October, 2013.
This is another MOMA tape for which I have a special affection, because as I listen to it I get the feeling that I am right there with Claudia as she creates the sounds. I get to spend a precious half hour with a friend who lives far away! The first side, "Econoise 1" consists of distinct passages of improvised wooden flute melodies, Casio keyboard sounds which seem to be the echo of the flute, and mellifluous spoken word passages. I do not understand the Spanish language well enough to know for certain what Claudia is saying, but I get the impression that she is extemporizing on the connections between acoustic instruments, machine instruments, and the sounds of daily life in a kind of new "economy of noise". The second side is a more layered and collaged sound environment, with crackly buzzy circuit bent Casio SA-1, flute, voices and saxophone. It is almost as if on the first side the elements are presented separately so that we can hear them in isolation from each other as we might usually think of them, and on the second side of the tape we are immersed in that econoise world of experience.
It looks like I was close to correct with my description above! - HM
Here is what Claudia Peredo wrote, via Google Translate:
in side A my voice: respect for nature and all is recycle, EcoVillages and sufficiency, leave consumerism-Sax Sound- birds in the forest- my voice: a choice to live in ecovillage. You're part of nature. breathe better, feed better, produce your food. City not depend - flute, dog, Casio, my voice: I am working with ecovillages worldwide to gain insight. ecoaldea protected as to when civilization reaches this place.society believes that progress is going against nature- casio circuitbending and distortion and flute cry- my voice: many people live in ecovillages for fashion, but others do it because we need a change in our lives, create awareness in children they care for the protection of the environment, what we do today with nature is what we leave to our children and grandchildren. - city, cars, trash- my voice: we can not be technological people to put aside the nature- Casio melody- my voice: we are not out of the earth, we are part of a whole (crosses a plane) my voice: this way of life does not mean neglecting the city life, means learning to respect my surroundings- final melody Agradezco mucho a Eduardo Gozne quien me ayudo con la grabacion y el concepto.
