MOMA070 - Zacarias Malden - Cachureos Al Por Mayor
Recorded in Quilpué, Chile
October 2013
The microcassette contains noises of machines built by me (Atari Punk Console, Walkie Talkie Modified), Android and iPhone apps, effects pedals, old guitar amp (damaged), voices of other tapes, television voices, my voice and my son.
"Cachureos Al Por Mayor = Wholesale Clogs"
"Wholesale Clogs" by Zacarias Malden is one of my personal favorite MOMA albums because Eduardo has created a work that is crusty, alive, and organic; abstract in parts, and yet the tape is highly personal as well. Electronics enthusiasts will enjoy the improvised sounds of homebuilt gear - Atari Punk Console, modified walkie-talkie, and smartphone apps. Plus there are collage passages consisting of voices from tapes and TV. On Lado B, Eduardo (along with his son) speaks directly to me and you, with personal reflections on the nature of the microcassette medium, making a connection between the inherent decayed sound of MC and the fact of our own deaths which will occur one day. It occurs to me that this precious audio document is a gift IN TIME and OF TIME - 30 minutes spent with a good amigo - no amount of money or material rewards in this life can match these moments on tape.
