Journey To Light And Progress
is a microcassette duo collaboration by Ironing and Hal McGee originally issued on C15 cassette in 2008 by the Hymns and HalTapes labels As crunchy, crusty, lo-fi and noisy as it gets, loaded with personal sounds, circuit bent electronics, tape playback and speed manipulations, feedback, microcassette dirt and filth. Andrew Chadwick and I created this audiowork prior to our Journey To Light And Progress tour in October 2008. We sold and traded the tape at shows in Gainesville, Tallahassee, Stone Mountain, Charlottesville, and Richmond, all of which led to the big event of the tour, our reunion with Lenny Pearlman, who lived in Petersburg at that time. Before moving to Virginia Pearlman hosted numerous experimental music shows in his Light And Progress laboratory in Gainesville, where he constructed awe-inspiring neon light sculptures. The cassette covers, which were each one of a kind, were intended to pay abstract representative homage to Lenny's light sculptures. Download includes scans of an original cassette cover, a scan of a cassette with hand-stamped label, and a PDF of these liner notes.
