HR186 - Maz Mitrenke - Dreamscapes - C46 — 1990
Review by Jerry Kranitz
Maz Mitrenke previously appeared in the Harsh Reality catalog with his Psychonaut album (HR164) and as part of the Quadraphase collective on the Disturbances album (HR166).
Dreamscapes features more of Mitrenke’s space orchestral and Berlin school brand of electronica. The tape consists of nine tracks, created with Mitrenke’s arsenal of keyboards, synths, samplers and effects. Yet the tracks only serve as chapter titles in a larger story as the music flows like one continuous interstellar symphony. Taken as a whole, the music is compositionally impressive. Mitrenke ebbs and flows through various stages of intensity and calm, fluidly rising and falling as the music traverses the cosmos and over the land and water surfaces of other worlds. It’s like the best of your favorite Klaus Schulze and Vangelis albums.
Note that Maz is still currently active with his Maz Mitrenko band (different last name spelling but it’s him).
