collaboration with myself |
61 minutes
On Friday, July 26, 2013 I improvised a mix of two 60-minute microcassettes that I had recorded of various random sounds in a collage fashion, sort of arbitrarily. One of the two tapes was originally intended for a collaboration with Rafael González. I took that tape and mixed it with another tape of stuff that I recorded and therefore collaborated with myself in a microcassette duo! I split the two 30-minute mixes into four 15-minute pieces for your listening convenience. Those of you who like lots of electronic sounds will want to check out part 4 especially. |
The two microcassettes include these sounds:
- voicemails and telephone & in-person conversations with Jiblit Dupree (Danny McGuire) - especially on the first three parts.
- extensive use of Korg Monotron analog synthesizers - original, Duo, and Delay - played separately, simultaneously, and linked together - mostly played through a Pignose 7-100 amp, but also recorded via the MIC jack of a desktop microcassette recorder (which added distortion).
- recordings of everyday sounds, such as -
rain on truck roof, bus driver announcement, urine, Chinese fortune cookies, talking with co-workers at my job and with neighbors at the bust stop, bulletin board flyer announcements, my voice saying stuff and making other mouth sounds, raindrops on umbrella, crickets chirping, birds singing, John Wayne had pop music hits!, Bono is a douchebag, Bono saved Africa!, shotgun, murder in the neighborhood, Casio keyboards (VA-10, circuit bent SK-1, SA-47), melodica, voicemails from three special guest contributors, ukulele, if you don't believe in anything you can't lose faith, Kim Kardashian & Kanye West & the Devil's spawn, the voices of my brother and father, there are a thousand ways to die, handjobs & blowjobs, water pump, piano lady in the lobby, shopping for canned pumpkin at Publix is a pleasure, other people's conversations, shrimp & grits, La Fiesta chips & salsa, cockroaches running across the table at Japanese steak house, my dog, a little bit gaudy, electric toothbrush, ATM, Pink Floyd road crew and crack ho's, dolphins are awesome, sportsman's double, Florida is still a jungle.
THIS MICROCASSETTE RECORDER KILLS FASCISTS!
I HOPE THAT YOU WILL HAVE FUN LISTENING TO THIS TAPE!
