Caution: Lo-Fi
Picture
61 minutes

 - featuring the sounds and voice of Jay T. Yamamoto
 - two 30-minute 4-track cassette tape collages

conceived and executed by Hal McGee, May 2013

   Jay T. Yamamoto is back!

From 1982 to 2001 JTY released about 80 cassettes on his JTY Tapes label, from his home in Aiea, Hawaii.

In early 2013 I made contact with JTY and undertook a project to interview him in order to find out more about how and why he made all of those great tapes of noisy lo-fi noise and experimental music.
I constructed Caution: Lo-Fi on a Tascam Porta02 MKII 4-track cassette recorder --

/ Track 1 of the 4-track tape contains
 - sounds extracted by McGee from "Wreckage In A Box II" - 1990s archival recordings by JTY
/ Track 2 of the 4-track tape contains
 - JTY's spoken cut-ups of texts of questions by McGee and JTY's replies from interview by McGee with JTY
/ Track 3 of the 4-track tape contains
 - Hal McGee reading cut-up texts of questions by McGee and JTY's replies from his interview with JTY
/ Track 4 of the 4-track tape contains
 - extracts from JTY tapes releases along with pop and experimental records mentioned in the interview

includes the voice of Stuart Hayashi
homemade audio folk art by Hal McGee and friends 1981-now
