answering machine project
The Automatic Confessional was a project created and curated by Hal McGee from August 19, 2009 through March 2, 2010. Anyone and everyone was invited to leave a one minute message of any sounds, content or sort on Hal McGee's microcassette answering machine. McGee collected 21 one-hour tapes of messages.
Message content includes ultra-mundane, random thoughts and musings, scandalous, suicidal, erotic and murderous confessions, spontaneous poetics, plus of course lots of noise and instrumental jams. The content of the tapes was solely determined by the contributors, and their messages are presented here without editing, in the order that they were received.
Read the original Automatic Confessional project invitation. Automatic Confessional operated concurrently with Dictaphonia.
The entire set of the 21 original Automatic Confessional tapes will soon all be available. I am working on the other 9!
